SUTRI (the antique "Sutrium") is a city and a bishop`s seat in italy, which belongs to the province viterbo, a part of latium.
Sutri has 5803 citizens.
The city is located in a picturesque place on a hill, surrounded by deep valleys. Only a slim path in the west connects the city with its surroundings.
You can still see some remains of the antique town, e.g. the town wall. The cathedral dates from a newer period, in contrast the crypt with its twenty columns has been built earlier. The "Camapanile" dates back to the 13th century. The church "Madonna del Parto" which is located in the south opposite the town has been carved out of cliffs, obviously at the same spot of an antique etruscan memorial of which more can be found in the surrounding area. Below Sutri there is an antique Roman amphitheatre which dates back to the 1st century BC. It has a size of 49,6 x 40,8 meters and has been completely carved out of tuff.
